Flag Day

Each year, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14th. A little known holiday, Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the stars and stripes we know today. Although its not an official federal holiday, its definitely a reason think about the flag as a symbol of freedom and democracy. It’s also a great time to have a great summer get together. Don’t forget to check out our patriotic section of plates, cups, napkins, tablecloths and more! Honor Betsy Ross, the seamstress of our first flag.

National Fruit and Vegetable Month

Eventhough we should always eat our share of fruits and veggies to stay healthy, the month of June encourages this even more. Summer brings the gorwing season and Farmer’s Markets across the country offer more and more varieties each week. In honor of Fruit and Veggies Month, check out some of hilarious fruit and veggie costumes.

I would fall over laughing if I saw a giant carrot walking down the street. And what about the ever-so-popular Banana costume… remember Bananas in Pajamas?! What a great halloween costume idea… and personalizable with your choice of pajamas! And don’t forget the little one…how cute is the peas in the pod infant costume?

So make sure to get extra fresh fruits and veggies this month. Incorporate them into your everyday recipes and diet!

  • People who eat more fruits and veggies—as part of a healthy diet—are likely to have reduced risk of chronic diseases. These diseases include stroke, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer, and perhaps heart disease.
  • The CDC also recommends eating a variety of colors in your fruits and vegetables. The different colors signify the important nutrients that we need to be healthy!

The "Last Hurrah"

It’s June, and what does that mean?! It’s wedding season! Over the next month I’m going to three weddings and since I happen to be close friends with all of the brides, that also means I have bachelorette parties to attend. All the “last hurrahs” include a crazy group of girls but the festivities all seem to be different.

For the outdoorsy bride, a camping trip is on the agenda. I’m sure warning and advertising the campground that we have arrived will be smart with banners and balloons.

For the girl that likes to stay in and host small get-togethers, bachelorette themed serving dishes, martini glasses, and games will do the trick. Everyone can make bite-sized appetizers to pass and fun, fruity drinks to enjoy. Maybe have guests invent their own unique cocktails. Check out some great games to celebrate the end of the single life and the beginning of the married life.

And for the wild girl that likes to have a “last night out”? Make sure everyone knows she’s about to take the plunge with a tiara and sash!

Whatever the bride may decide to do, make sure that its her night to have a good time! Maybe get creative and have a theme party? A Casino night, Pampering spa, or Karaoke!

Some other useful tips:

  • Pick a date that works for the bride and the bridal party. Should be close enough to the wedding but far enough for recovery.
  • Every bride is different! What you think she wants may be far from it!
  • Don’t stress out about it! It’s a night to set all other wedding planning aside!
  • Try to keep the budget low. More girls can attend and we all know weddings can get pricey enough!

Any memorable or great bachelorette party ideas?!
