Mardi gras is coming to town!

Mardi gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is on February 24th this year. That means from today, you only have 4 days to get your party attire situated and figured out. I was reading about the history of this celebration today and was amazed to learn it goes back 5,000 years! That’s a long time people! I love Mardi gras for a few reasons. First and foremost, it’s great because this means spring is right around the corner! Living in Wisconsin is brutally cold during the winter months so there is nothing I look forward to more than the thawing of the ground and being able to see the green grass again! Second, I absolutely LOVE the fabulous colors Mardi Gras entails. Purple, green and gold, just really cool looking colors and when else is it acceptable to wear these colors together? According to some color coordinated friends of mine…Never. Did you know that all of the colors actually MEAN something too? Yup! Purple is for Justice, green is for faith and gold is for power! Lastly, it’s another reason to get some friends together, make some food, dress up and celebrate! We all need time to relax and celebrate with friends after all the hard working. So, get out the beads, party supplies, décor and even costumes and party yourselves silly!

Arrg! The pirate phenomenon!

At BuyCostumes.com we're fortunate enough to see what is going to be hot and exciting each year in the costume industry. While the biggest costumes generally are from the latest blockbuster movies, there is another trend of hot selling items we see each year: Pirate costumes

While you may be thinking this is mostly due to the success of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie franchise, that's not necessarily true. Pirates are more popular than ever as evidenced by the hundreds of pirate themed events all over the country. Gasparilla, in Tampa Bay, Florida is probably the biggest of these events. It's a great event which brings thousands of visitors each year and features a street dance, fireworks, and a live pirate invasion! Not to mention, everyone dresses up in their best pirate garb.
