The Amazing Spider-Man Costumes hit shelves soon!

♫ Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can.
Going places, swinging there. He might even – visit the fair.
He’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man, doing stuff that I spider can. ♫

OK, so you may have noticed – I don’t know the lyrics to the Spider-Man theme song. Well, I’m fairly certain that I got “Spider-Man, Spider-Man” correct. That’s about it though.
Do you know the words? Yeah, that’s what I thought, nobody does.

That’s OK though, because in light of The new Amazing Spider-Man trailer debuting yesterday, we’re pulling back the curtains on our new Amazing Spider-Man costumes too. They’re not available on the site quite yet, but that’s OK, you can peek at them anyways.

Enough with the commentary, lets get to the juicy bits. Check out the trailer…

This ‘re-imagining’ of the Spider-Man series forgoes angsty tap-dancing Tobey Maguire in favor of The Social Network‘s Andrew Garfield in the titular role. Emma Stone (Easy A, Zombieland) as Spidey/Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy (who was played by Bryce Dallas Howard (Terminator Salvation, 50/50) in Spiderman 3) and Welsh actor Rhys Ifans (The Replacements, The Boat That Rocked) as the Dr. Curt Connors, whose transformation into the Spidey villain The Lizard, will serve as the film’s protagonist.

It’s a different approach to the material than the last three films took, essentially restarting the series. I for one welcome this, as Mr. Maguire and co. were starting to wear thin in their roles (with the notable exception of J. K. Simmon’s portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson – which was SPOT ON)

And now, check out just some of of the Amazing Spider-Man costumes we’ll be offering up in the coming months…

Remember, this is just a taste. The Amazing Spider-Man 3D hits theaters on July 3rd, 2012 and The Amazing Spider-Man costumes hit our digital shelves soon!

On the first day of Christmas, Buycostumes gave to me…a Christmas tree with presents for feet.

Do you remember Captain Planet? Because I’m about to reference it, and you probably won’t have a clue what’s going on if you’re not familiar with the show.

“Snowman, Penguin, Santa, Reindeer, Bear with a Santa Cap, Christmas Tree! When your powers combine – I am Captain Christmas!” OK. That was a bit of a lame reference. Anyways, you can score 12 of these jazzy Christmas rings for 20% off on our twelfth day of Christmas. This package comes with 2 of each of the rings you see in the photo – so if you have to kids you won’t have to worry about them arguing about “I WANT SANTAS HEAD!” or something bizarre like that.

(man, did I just use the adjective “jazzy” to describe these? What year is it? 1977? Also, “twelfth” is a bizarre word, I mean, look at the letters “lfth” what a cacophony of phonetic chaos. Everytime I look at it I feel like I’m experiencing jamais vu all over again.

Merry Christmas!

This holiday season, we’re presenting our own rendition of ‘The 12 Days of Christmas’. Each day, Buycostumes.com will launch a new product correlating to each day of the song. All items will be discounted beginning the day they are added to the sale, through the remaining twelve days (through December 23). Save anywhere from 20 – 50% off selected items and stock up on some great gifts!

April Fool’s

Oh, ok.  You caught us.  Some of you caught on quick too.  Last Friday we announced the release of our supposed proprietary brand “RealPowerTek.” Purported ‘real-life superhero’ costumes that allowed somebody to dress like Magneto and hover in a slightly less illustrious way than Mr. McKellen has portrayed in the X-Men films so far.  Tossing on the famous red and blue Spidey uniform would allow any aspiring photographer to feel the geek as he scaled walls of heights up to 6 feet in the style of the famous web-slinger.  We also had one our awesome Graphic Designers dress up in our proported “Electrical Storm” costume, sure, she couldn’t control the weather – BUT WE SHOWED HER SHOOTING ELECTRICAL BOLTS, and she kicks really high too.

Hell, we went so far as to dub the tagline of “Real Power. Real Technology. Real Costumes!  We even issued a press release – complete with quotes from our CEO.

Obviously, this was one big April Fools joke.  One that we had a lot of fun doing.

Now, even though these “RealPowerTek” costumes aren’t real – they are based on actual costumes that we sell.  If you like what you saw, you can buy what you saw, just check out the guide below.

The RealPowerTek Hovering Magneto Adult Costume was based on the awesome Magneto costume that we sell, and a badass pair of black boots thrown in for good measure.

Wear it yourself with this costume and accessory:

Classic Magneto Adult Costume

Shazam (black) Adult Boots

The RealPowerTek Wall Crawling Spider-Man Adult Costume was the most straight forward of the three, with a rad Spiderman onesie.

Wear it yourself with this costume:

The Amazing Spider-Man Super Deluxe Spider-Man Adult Costume

Our third, and final costume was the RealPowerTek Electrical Storm Adult Costume.  The really unusual thing about this costume, is that we didn’t even use our actual Storm costume for the main outfit.  We actually used our Iron Man 2 – Black Widow Costume to give her the appearance of Storm from the X-Men movies.

Wear it yourself with this costume and accessories:

Iron Man 2 (2010) Movie – Black Widow Sexy Adult Costume

Lala Ruched Thigh High Boots (Black) Adult

Cape with Collar (Black) Adult

Venturous Storm Adult Wig

Silver Lame Adult Gloves

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…

As our internal clocks complete the adjustment to daylight savings time, and memories of Halloween slowly fade into the shadows, sparks of Thanksgiving and Christmas start to jump to the forefront of our minds. Thanksgiving is not just a holiday for awesome food, good times with family, and football. It also flags the onset of one of the most anticipated shopping days of the year – Black Friday. People by the thousands will turn out to stand in line for cut throat deals, limited offers, and freebies. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will keep the throng of thrifty shoppers from piling into department and big-box stores that Friday, ready to literally, shop ’til they drop. The temptation to brave this brash bunch is hard to withstand – the sales and offers on Black Friday always seem too good to ignore, especially when it comes to those items on your loved ones wish lists. If, however, you find yourself a little lackluster at the thought of re-enacting the ever-popular Turbo-Man scene from ‘Jingle All the Way’, remember, you have another awesome alternative – online shopping! This year, instead of hurrying to hit up the holiday sales at the brick and mortars, why not shop for great gifts in your pj’s and slippers, with a big ol’ cup of hot chocolate? Here are a few ideas for stocking stuffers that will help to ensure you Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!

To kick off the season and spread Joy to the World, start out with the basics. Holiday hats add a little jolly to your Springy Mistletoe Headbandholly and offer just the right amount of flair for everyone, from elves to humbugs. The Velvet Santa Hat and Reindeer Antlers are perfect for your true traditionalists, but if you’re feeling a little sassy, try out the Springy Mistletoe Headband – it’s kiss tested, pucker approved.

If you’ve got a pretty Princess on your shopping list who does not want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, you can find everything from princess costumes, to jewelry, to chalk, to shoes at Buycostumes.com. One of my personal favorites is the set of Disney Princess Sundae Dishes. There is no better way to offer up a sweet treat to your sweetheart. The Disney Princess Rubber Bracelets are also a fan favorite this year, so be sure to grab a bag!

For your Little Drummer Boy with a penchant for pirates, check out Buycostumes.com selection of buccaneer buys. A corsair costume, cutlass and eye patch are sure to make them shiver their timbers when they open their Yule time treasures! The Spider Web Clock is a unique gift for anyone with a swashbucklin’ set up.

After all of Santa’s little helpers have been tucked in with tummies full of tasty treats, it may be time for Mom and Dad to do a little Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. To add a dash of  ’allspice’ to your festive attire, take a peek at these hot Christmas costumes and accessories.  The Velvet Miss Santa and Holiday Hottie will leave no question as to who’s naughty or nice, and are the perfect match up with the Sexy Mr. Santa or Satin Santa Boxers. With these spicy numbers, Bells Will Be Ringing, but whatever you do, just be sure the elves don’t see Mommy Kissing Santa Clause underneath the mistletoe!

Ben Affleck’s ‘The Town’ and Holy Bank Heists

The Nun on the Run mask is featured in the new blockbuster: The Town.  In stock and ready to ship, this stick-up sister vows to rob the competition during all of your Halloween haunts.  Some might say that bank robbery is an art form – an orchestrated plan that deserves a little swindling swagger.  Sure, a ski mask might do in a pinch, but a calculated move is to disguise your identity with a little cinematic style.  From the Joker’s crew in The Dark Night, to those surfing ex-presidents in Point Break, Hollywood hold-ups always have an added element of excitement.   BuyCostumes.com doesn’t condone any Charlestown re-enactments, but we have everything you need to bring Ben Affleck’s take on heist haute couture to a party near you!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Mario (and brother)!

That’s right, the most famous sibling plumbers of all time, for that matter the most famous plumbers of all time, are celebrating their birthday today, Monday, September 13th.

Twenty-five fantastic years ago today, Super Mario Bros. was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

While the character of Mario appeared in 1981′s Donkey Kong as the appropriately named Jumpman (he did, after all, do a lot of…jumping) it wasn’t until 1985s Super Mario Bros. that the mustachioed hero garnered international acclaim. From there, the rest, as they say, is history.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery; and what better way to show your appreciation for suspender-clad video game legend than purchasing one of BuyCostumes officially licensed Super Mario Bros. costumes. Be it Mario, Luigi, Toad, Yoshi or the castle-hopping Princess Peach, BuyCostumes.com has the perfect Super Mario Bros. costume for both adults and kids.

If dressing up as the famous brothers isn’t enough for you, consider checking out the exclusive Super Mario Bros. party supplies, available only on BuyCostumes.com! Still looking for more Mario fun? Flash up the kids party with our exclusive Super Mario Bros. 18” Pull-String Pinata. Whatever your style, BuyCostumes can help you tribute the legendary brothers.

Political Hair

Politicians and their hair have a fabled history.  From the powdered wigs of presidential yore, to the legend that is Lincoln’s beard, to the endless amount of perfection that former presidential candidate John Edwards poured into his now infamous locks; the relationship between political maven and their political hair has been rife for parody over the years, and for good reason.  After all, have you ever seen a politician that was bald?

So with that, here are only some of the most famous (and maligned) examples of political hair.

Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln reigns supreme as one of this nations most storied and legendary presidents.  Along with his height (6′ 4″) he is best remembered for his oft imitated chin-strap beard.  Replicas have been donned by many an adolescent child before performing an impromptu rendition of the late president’s Gettysburg Address in front of their 5th grade history class.

James Traficant

As a former Democratic Representative from Ohio Traficant’s claim to fame was his 2002 expulsion from congress and his federal imprisonment for corruption.  After briefly dominating the headlines following his misappropriation of campaign funds the bizarre nature of Traficant’s hair came to light.  It’s almost as difficult to describe the style as it is to imagine what was going through the mans head when he decided on it.  Resembling what can best be described as a dead animal, “the Traficant”* is one of his best (and least costly to the taxpayer) legacies.

Rod Blagojevich

The former Illinois Governor was removed from office after he attempted to sell off President Obamas seat in the Illinois state senate.  After his political career met its meteoric demise Blagojevich pushed the boundaries of his 15 minutes of fame by starring on a handful of reality shows before beginning his corruption trail.  His hair, which takes up nearly half his head is arguably bigger, and certainly less despicable than Blagojevich’s seemingly unending quest for attention.

Ronald Reagan

Personally I always thought the late presidents hair resembled a molded piece of plastic gently set on top of his head.  And, quite frankly, judging by the amount of slick he probably weaved in there, it might as well have been.  Perhaps, I’m willing to cede, Mr. Reagan’s head of hair recalled the former generation of Hollywood stars that he belonged to.

John Edwards

The man, the myth, the legend.  In terms of political hair, few individuals are better known for their follicle follies than the former Senator from North Carolina.  Suffice to say, Edwards was obsessed with his hair, and in particular that part.  Edwards hair obsession has, in the lexicon of pop culture overshadowed both his 2004 and 2008 presidential campaigns and even his extramarital affairs; a fact due in no small part (pun intended) to this video. Oh my gosh that part! So beautiful, so calming!

Wig Out! Reasons why wigs are better than hair dye.

It’s no secret that a funky, fun hair color is a great way to top off a costume, but trying to get that color you want can easily leave you in a hairy situation. So why not consider a wig instead? They can change your look in seconds without the hassles of hair dyes. So before you reach for the hair dye consider these reasons why a wig might be a better choice come this Halloween.

There’s no mess – Wigs are perfect for transforming your look without creating a mess in the process. Products like color hair sprays and other types of hair dyes can stain your hands, clothes and even your shower or sink when washing out the color.

You can mix it up whenever you want – Even with all the color options out there you might not be able to make as bold of statement as you want if your hair is on the darker side (having dark brown hair myself, I know going blonde isn’t really an option). Wigs are a great way to instantly change your look and give you the flexibility to try out any color.

There’s no risk of A.D.D (A Dyeing Disaster) – I heard so many horror stories from friends telling me how what was supposed to be a simple one time coloring, turned into a dye job gone horribly wrong. Even temporary hair dyes may require several washes before the color rinses out completely. So if you plan to go back into the office after using hot pink hair spray all Halloween weekend be careful!

So if you’re ready to ditch the hair dye for a wig this Halloween check out our Hats, Wigs, & Masks page on Buycostumes.com for tons of wig styles and colors!

Mardi gras is coming to town!

Mardi gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is on February 24th this year. That means from today, you only have 4 days to get your party attire situated and figured out. I was reading about the history of this celebration today and was amazed to learn it goes back 5,000 years! That’s a long time people! I love Mardi gras for a few reasons. First and foremost, it’s great because this means spring is right around the corner! Living in Wisconsin is brutally cold during the winter months so there is nothing I look forward to more than the thawing of the ground and being able to see the green grass again! Second, I absolutely LOVE the fabulous colors Mardi Gras entails. Purple, green and gold, just really cool looking colors and when else is it acceptable to wear these colors together? According to some color coordinated friends of mine…Never. Did you know that all of the colors actually MEAN something too? Yup! Purple is for Justice, green is for faith and gold is for power! Lastly, it’s another reason to get some friends together, make some food, dress up and celebrate! We all need time to relax and celebrate with friends after all the hard working. So, get out the beads, party supplies, décor and even costumes and party yourselves silly!

Cheers!
