There’s an oldie out there, by Mitch Ryder. Devil with a Blue Dress On.
Are you familiar with it? Want to spice up some otherwise ‘typical’ costumes this year? Well now you can buy a boombox, crank those beats, and be a devil with a blue dress on – in just three easy steps.
And, with a little craftsmanship (read: removing the wings), our True Blue Fairy Light Up Costume is a perfect blue dress – it even has that light-up sparkle to add a little flavor to your spice.
And just like that, you’re a Devil with a blue dress on.
Wait, what was that? Well, aside from a pretty poor attempt at an onomatopoeia, it’s the sound that you’ll hear if you happen to be around anyone who chops together the Sexy Killer Bee costume we’re assembling in this week’s Chop Shop.
It’s pretty simple really, depending on how far you’d like to go with it, there are a number of options at hand.
You can’t buzz unless you’re a bee (or a contestant on a quiz show, but…well…yeah). So you need a bee costume – we’ve got that, and here are three costumes in particular that might just be perfect for you.
What’s hot? What’s not? Ok, so I’m just going to focus on what’s hot here at BuyCostumes and give you a glimpse into 3 of our Top 10 costumes from the week of July 17 thru July 23.
Marvel’s latest theatrical endeavor, Captain America: The First Avenger premiered last Friday to a pretty solid showing. So much so that it usurped the ‘reigning’ champion from the week prior, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and while in the week prior, both the Captain and Harry were touting through the top ten, last week only saw the Captain hitting it big with costumes, one of which was…
Also, unsurprisingly, another huge summer blockbuster saw representation in our top 10. Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon. This is one of the cooler costumes we sell, even if you’re a classic Transformers fan, you have to appreciate the intricate details that director Michael Bay managed to inject into the new generation of the infamous robots in disguise. Our 3D Bumblebee costume features Vacuform technology that naturally shapes the costume to the contours of your body. So even if you’re a little on the wider side, it still looks appropriate.
This one may be a bit of a surprise, but if you ask me, I don’t think that sixties vibe should ever die. Maybe Austin Powers is making a comeback, because GoGo boots were pretty huge last week.
WonderCon has always been exciting - widely anticipated releases of memorabilia, back issues of comics, new costume releases and awesome home-made costumes. This year, however, the most exciting thing to come out of WonderCon, is footage!
Over the weekend, Warner Brothers released footage at WonderCon of some scenes from the highly anticipated Green Lantern movie to be released June 17th. And it is AWESOME!!
Not only do we get a peek at the world of Oa, but we’re also introduced to a few of the characters – Abin-Sur, Sinestro and Tomar-Re. The design of the film and the cinematography look fantastic – fresh, exciting and very extraterrestrial. It also looks like there will be a ton of action in the film – sure to keep the guys as captivated as the girls (we don’t really need anything more than Ryan to keep us captivated!)Â What’s most exciting? This footage is only in 2D – I can’t wait to see the 3D version!
Â
Unfortunately, we can’t show you the new movie costumes just yet; though if you’re willing to take a leap of faith, there are a few available for pre-order. Either way, be sure to check back – they’ll be here soon!
“In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power… Green Lantern’s light!”
Oh, ok. You caught us. Some of you caught on quick too. Last Friday we announced the release of our supposed proprietary brand “RealPowerTek.” Purported ‘real-life superhero’ costumes that allowed somebody to dress like Magneto and hover in a slightly less illustrious way than Mr. McKellen has portrayed in the X-Men films so far. Tossing on the famous red and blue Spidey uniform would allow any aspiring photographer to feel the geek as he scaled walls of heights up to 6 feet in the style of the famous web-slinger. We also had one our awesome Graphic Designers dress up in our proported “Electrical Storm” costume, sure, she couldn’t control the weather – BUT WE SHOWED HER SHOOTING ELECTRICAL BOLTS, and she kicks really high too.
Obviously, this was one big April Fools joke. One that we had a lot of fun doing.
Now, even though these “RealPowerTek” costumes aren’t real – they are based on actual costumes that we sell. If you like what you saw, you can buy what you saw, just check out the guide below.
Our third, and final costume was the RealPowerTek Electrical Storm Adult Costume. The really unusual thing about this costume, is that we didn’t even use our actual Storm costume for the main outfit. We actually used our Iron Man 2 – Black Widow Costume to give her the appearance of Storm from the X-Men movies.
Wear it yourself with this costume and accessories:
222 years from now, on this very date (Stardate 1277.1), a legend will be born in Riverside, Iowa. His journey’s chronicled through his recordings in his captains log, and his name unforgettable to those who came after him.
For the uninformed, today marks the date of the legendary Starfleet Captain James Tiberius Kirk, the future (and former, depending on where you are in time) captain of the USS Enterprise. So, with that in mind, a big -222 to you, Captain Kirk!
In related news, today also marks the birthday of Kirk’s real-life alter ego, Mr. William Shatner. The pop-culture legend turns the big 8-0 today, and will undoubtedly be celebrating in style.
The guy looks damn good for being 80-years-old!
I humbly implore you to take a minute and journey with me down Dustin’s Shatner Hall-of-Fame, where I briefly highlight some of the most memorable moments in the continuing life of a modern-day legend.
The Trouble With Tribbles (Episode 44 of Star Trek: The Original Series)
Back in the day, selling the Commodore Vic-20
Making Airplane 2 almost somewhat kind of as good as the original
Saving the whales in 1986 San Francisco with Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy)
Recording an undeniably badass cover of the Pulp song, Common People
As the oddly charasmatic and questionably insane lawyer Denny Crane on Boston Legal.
And, in perhaps his greatest role, as himself, William Shatner. Man, actor, singer, songwriter, performer, definer of all things awesome and adimrable.
So, iff you’re so inclined, why don’t you pick up our Classic Trek Gold Shirt costume? You’ll have a better legacy than the red-shirts ever do, and, I hear that even the most feared of Romulans cower at the sight of Kirk’s famous golden uniform. And while nobody will ever reside on the same plane as Mr. Shatner, maybe, just maybe, you can truly be, a Rocket Man.
From superheroes, to super vehicles, 2011 is geared up to be a year of awesome movie releases! And where there are awesome movies, there are awesome costumes. Here is a sneak peek at some of the Hot Movie Costumes for 2011. Who will you be this Halloween?
Victorian Christmas carolers, ghostly Marley’s and even the grimmest of reapers all help create a feeling of holiday nostalgia with a classic tale that can turn any “Bah Humbug” frown upside down. If you still haven’t been infused with the Christmas spirit, there’s still time! Here’s the formula: get visited by three ghosts, go on a voyeuristic voyage of your past, present and future, visit Tiny Tim, listen to your nephew’s wife call you a scrooge and give some kid some money to buy a prize goose. Or you could sleep through the night and just grab a few of these storybook styles to make it a Dickens of a Christmas!
Santa’s favorite sweet treat! A red stretch-velvet dress is accented by sparkling sequin and faux fur trim. Gum drops and peppermint canes? Not you – you’re candy for the eyes.
